Rio Arriba County Parks and Recreation Department

 

The goal of the Parks and Recreation Department is to promote health and prolong years for Senior Citizens, adults and the youth of Rio Arriba County. In doing so, the RAC Parks and  Recreation Department assists local Senior Athletes by competing in annual Senior Olympic Games. The Parks and Recreation Department also provides recreational activities and summer food programs for school children during school and summer months. Summer leagues for adults and youth are also being organized throughtout Rio Arriba County. These leagues include Co-ed Softball (adults), Little Leagues, 3 on 3 Basketball Tournaments and much more. The County Parks & Recreation Dept. sponsored this event, and over 150

children from the area attended this event, and left with lots of special treats for Easter!!

SENIOR OLYMPICS:

"Remember you don't stop playing because you grow old, you grow old because you stop playing"

 

The Rio Arriba County Senior Olympic Program is dedicated to promoting healthy life styles for all seniors 50 years and older through health treks, fitness, and sporting events. Department staff over the past years have been very successful in recruiting senior adults to join Senior Olympics and continue to improve and maintaining good health and wellness of our senior adults. In 2013 our Senior Olympican competed in the New Mexico Senior Olympic Summer Games held at Roswell's New Mexico Military Institute Campus. Rio Arriba County was well represented, Olympians combined efforts brough home a total of 380 combined medals and ribbons.

 

The 2017 Rio Arriba County Local Games will be held April 28th - 30th, at the

Carlos F. Vigil Middle School facilities, located at 1260 Industrial Park Road in Española
